Detailed ad specs:

RegardingID Magazine and CR80News Print Edition are printed using web offset and Computer-to-Plate, all-digital processes. All ads must be submitted as digital files in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (.PDF) per the specifications in this document.

Trim, bleed, and live copy area:

 

Trim size:

The finished magazine is trimmed to 8.375” x 10.875”

Bleed area: A .125” bleed should be left on all sides for ads that bleed resulting in a bleed size of 8.625” x 11.125”.
Live copy area:

All live materials should be .25” from the trim on all sides to ensure that they appear in the trim-safe or print-safe zone. This results in a safe zone of 8.125”x10.625”.

 

Creating PDF files:

Step 1:

Source files from layout programs including Pagemaker, Indesign, and Quark should be prepared as CMYK pages at the trim size specified above (8.375” x 10.875”).

Step 2: All images included in the ad should be created as tiff files using Photoshop (please follow the steps detailed below in the section titled “Creating files in Photoshop for inclusion in ads”) or as CMYK .eps files using Illustrator.
Step 3: The file should be outputted as a high resolution PDF file using the downloadable PDF Preferences.
Alternate Step 3: The file can be saved as a postscript file and then run through Adobe Acrobat Distiller to create the PDF, using our settings.


Correctly utilizing type and fonts in ads:

  • All type should be easily read and of a dark density.
  • Black line copy should be minimum 6-pt sans serif and 100% Black – Do not use 4 COLOR black for body copy.
  • Fine lines and rules should be restricted to one color.
  • Specify rule width to maintain consistency. Do not use “hair line” rules.
  • Reverse type should be minimum 8-pt sans serif bold face
  • Type should extend no closer than .25” of final trim area.
  • Fonts should be Type 1 PostScript fonts. Avoid the use of TrueType fonts. Fonts should be embedded in PDF.

Correctly utilizing color in images and ads:

Alll images must be process color (CMYK) 300 dpi or higher. Any spot color images must be converted to CMYK before outputting the ad to PDF. Do not utilize ICC profiles in images.

Creating files in Photoshop:

When creating files in Photoshop for ads or for inclusion in page layout program, it is important to specify the correct ‘Color Settings’ to use when saving your images. The simplest way to do this is to download the RegardingID Photoshop Preferences. Select the Color Settings option from the ‘Photohshop’ dropdown menu and select ‘Load.’ Specify the "RegardingID Photoshop Preferences” file and click Save.

Production and design work:

Material received that does not meet our requirements will need additional work. All additional work will be billed to the advertiser and will be done only at the discretion of the advertiser. Production work will be charged at $100 per hour with a minimum charge of $100. A written production cost sheet will be furnished upon receipt of advertising material. As an additional service to our advertisers, design, layout and production expertise is available. We can start with copy and photos or work with your electronic file.

Submitting files:

The preferred method for submission of files is via FTP to the following location: ftp. avisian. com; Username=dropbox; Password= avisian. Create a folder titled with the advertiser’s name. Please email design@avisian.com when the file has been uploaded to the site.

Alternatively, files less than 10 mb in size can be emailed directly to design@avisian.com.
